WATERLOO–Cedar Rapids Prairie standout Joah Banks has signed a letter of intent to join the men's track and field team at Hawkeye Community College for the 2017-2018 season.

Banks is the state's dominant hurdles athlete, claiming the Drake Relays (14.35) and Iowa State High School Track and Field Championships (14.06) titles in 2016. He followed up this spring with repeat performances, setting a Drake Relays record (14.01) on his way to a second title and establishing a new Iowa all-time best record (13.91) during state prelims before earning his second Class 4A crown (13.98).

He also helped the Prairie Hawks take first in the 4x100M Relay in 2016 at the Drake Relays and at state. Banks is a nominee for the 2017 All-Iowa Boys Track and Field Athlete of the Year title, which will be announced June 24 at Wells Fargo Arena.

He is the son of Josh and Lisa Hobart and plans to enroll in the Liberal Arts Transfer program.
