WATERLOO - The Hawkeye Community College athletic department is excited to announce that Emily Klein of sports shooting and Ryan Millikin of men's track and field as March's student-athletes of the month.
Klein, a native of Tiffin, Iowa, competed at the ACUI Collegiate Clay Target Championships in San Antonio, Texas on March 27. She helped lead the RedTails to a 5th place finish (Division IV) in the American & International Trap events. The RedTails also took home 7th in Sporting Clays, 8th in International Skeet, and 9th in American Skeet. As a individual, Klein had her best performance in the American Trap as she would finish 31st out of 190 shooters, after hitting 96 total targets. Klein, and the RedTail Sports Shooting team will be in action next April 7th, at Boone Valley Izaak Walton, in Webster City, IA.
Millikin was a member of the RedTails 4x800 Meter Relay team, as well as the Distance Medley squad, both of which qualified for the National meet held in Lubbock, Texas. The 4x800 Meter Relay team of Millikin, Landon Boomsma, David Thompson, and Konnor Roth finished 10th in the National Championship meet after posting a final time of 7:56.32. Millikin teamed up with Boomsma, Avery Moore, and Peter Torkleson to also finish 10th in the Distance Medley after crossing the finish line in a time of 10:26.91. Millikin, and the rest of the RedTail Track & Field team will hit the oval next on April 21st, at the University of Dubuque Invitational.
