WATERLOO–Troy Emley will lead the Hawkeye RedTails Sports Shooting program as the new head coach. He replaces Kevin Boldt, who retired at the end of the spring 2017 season.
Emley founded the Central Iowa Straight Shooters in 2013. He was head coach and executive director for the organization until 2016, when he began to focus solely on the executive director role. He was previously senior minister at First Christian Church in Central City, Nebraska. Emley was involved with hunting and shooting at a young age and as a minister fell in love with the sport while shooting with members of his congregation. He was transferred to Liscomb, Iowa, in 2012.
He has an associate degree in gunsmith technology from Iowa Valley Community College and a bachelor's degree in pastoral ministries from Nebraska Christian College. He has experience coaching football, baseball, and sports shooting at the high school level, and has multiple shotgun coaching certifications. He and his wife, Jordan, live in Conrad and have three children.
The RedTail Sports Shooting team begins its fall season at Southeastern Community College on September 16.
