DUBUQUE–RedTails Track and Field took on a windy day at the University of Dubuque, with both the men's and women's teams finishing second.
On the men's side, Kenneth Beard had a breakthrough run, taking third in the 200-meter dash and Cameron Williams and Sam Roth went 1-2 in the 400. The men's 800 crew swept the race, and Nick Durnin set a new PR to win the 110 hurdles, also doubling back to win the 400 hurdles. Johnny Smith debuted the 3000-meter steeplechase and took second overall. Zack Conger took second in high jump and David Thompson, Konner Roth, Kenneth Beard capped the meet off with a solid 4x400 win.
"Overall it was a great small, low key meet," said head coach Tyler Mulder. "We're excited as everyone seems to be fine tuned heading into Drake Relays weekend!"
As for the women's team, Paighton Malek had a breakthrough in the 100, going 12.49. Both Emma Hartz and Bianca Malone took home team points in the 400 placing second and fifth respectively. Alayna Kollasch set a new school record in the 800, and took second, and Madison Larsen ran a new PR in the 1500, and doubled back to take second in the 3,000. Sydney Davis won the 400 hurdles, setting the school record and qualifying for nationals. Malek, Hartz, Rebecca McDermott, and Sydney Davis took second overall in the 4x400 with 59.1.
"Overall I was happy with how the women competed as well as we look forward to this weekend!" added Mulder
