CEDAR RAPIDS–Sam Mickelson's record-setting performance propelled the RedTail Men's Cross Country team to a fourth place finish at the 26th annual Mustang Gallop August 30 at Mount Mercy University.

Mickelson took home sixth and a school record in the 5K (16:14.9), followed by a couple of RedTail sophomores with top 20 finishes: Jonny Smith (12th, 16:25.1) and Payton Bahl (18th, 16:38.8). Keegan Dally (17:15.8) and Brandon Conrad (17:25.6) rounded out the RedTail top five.

"They ran as a pack better this meeting but there are more improvements to be made as the Men's team goes up in distance as the season progresses," said head coach Tyler Mulder.

Other notable performances were lifetime personal records in the 5K by freshmen Ryan Moore (18:19.1) and Collin Luck (18:39.9).

"The men are getting more confident each race which is encouraging to see as their times are aligning with this progress." stated Coach Mulder.
