WATERLOO- The Hawkeye Community College women's soccer team used one of their best team performances of the year against NAIA foe Mount Mercy (JV) to secure a 3-0 shutout.
The first half of the match yielded no goals for either team, however, the RedTail offense would tally 16 shots against the Mustangs. The offense remained in sync when the second half started, and this time the RedTails were able to break through and find the back of the net. Freshman forward Jovanna Suarez would put the RedTails up 1-0 in the 61st minute with her team leading 15th goal of the season. Suarez would increase her team lead in the 66th minute, as she would again put one past the Mustang goalkeeper, this time via a left footed-strike off an assist from teammate Lucie Waddon. Milady Ramos would round out the RedTail scoring for the match in the 75th minute, as she would beat the Mustang goalie in a 1-on-1 opportunity, set up by sophomore Alison Keitel's assist from midfield.
The RedTail defense kept the Mustangs offense under wraps throughout, as they would allow only 8 shots. Alexis Trombley collected 7 saves in goal to ensure a shutout for the RedTails.
