COUNCIL BLUFFS-After an exciting overtime thriller won by your five seed RedTails, their Cinderella run came to a close on Tuesday, October 29, in a 4-1 loss to the top-seeded Iowa Western Reivers.
The Reivers came out strong early and struck well, scoring two goals in the first 25 minutes of first-half action. There was no quit in the RedTails though, as the second half started with a bang. Chloe Allan scored on a great shot just three minutes into the second half to cut the lead to 2-1. This was the first goal the RedTails had scored on the number one Reivers in the two matches against them. There was upset in the air once more for the underdogs. The 2-1 slugfest continued into the 70th minute when the silence was finally broken by a Reiver goal scored off of a penalty kick. After the final goal pushed the lead to 4-1 the match was out of reach and the run was over.
"My girls fought valiantly today," said head coach Robbie Carroll. "But it just wasn't meant to be. We got unlucky with a couple of bounces."
The RedTail women were knocked out of the semi-final round of the 2019 Region XI Tournament after beating the fourth seed in the quarterfinal matchup. The women finish the year at 7-6 overall and 4-4 in conference play. The RedTails did do a great job of protecting home field as they were 4-1 in home games.
