COUNCIL BLUFFS - The Hawkeye Community College Track and Field teams headed West for the NJCAA Region XI Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Iowa Western Community College. The RedTails would take fourth overall, Iowa Central would go on to reclaim their Region XI Outdoor Track and Field title from the previous year.
Megan Hudson headlined for the RedTails, taking the crown for the 100M Hurdles in a time of 15.17. Hudson would go on to compete in the 400M open taking 6th overall with a time of 1:02.74.
For the relays it was the 4x100M relay of Morgan Thompson, Hannah Johnson, Zarreeel Knox, and Miara Oliver that would take 3rd at the meet with a time of 53:09. Miara Oliver would go on to take 5th in the 100M open with a time of 13.44, earning more points for the team.
It was the field events that picked up most points for the lady RedTails as Zarreeel Knox, Theresa Hatch, Haile Cook, and Kayla Joyce all placed top 6 in their events. Knox would take the title in the triple jump and runner-up in the long jump with marks of 10.33m and 5.13m respectively. Hatch would follow Knox in the long jump with a 3rd place finish and a leap of 4.69m. Haile Cook would take runner-up in the shot put with a toss of 11.68m followed by two 6th place finishes in the discus and hammer with marks of 33.82m and 31.28m respectively. Rounding out the points for the throws was Kayla Joyce with a toss of 34.90m in the discus, earning her 5th place overall.
The RedTails will be heading to Butler Community College in El Dorado, Kansas for the NJCAA National Outdoor Track and Field Championships on May 17-19.
