CEDAR FALLS - The Hawkeye Sports Shooting team hosted the Hawkeye RedTails Invitational on April 14th at the Cedar Falls Gun Club.
It was a day that mother nature decided to throw almost everything she had at. With wind gusts of up to 45 mph, the RedTails faced a tough task shooting first in the day. As the other teams arrived the winds began to lighten and the rain, sleet, snow, and even some bouts of small hail decided to move in. The RedTails would earn a 3rd place finish in the team standings after hitting 416 total birds. Southeastern CC Sports Shooting would take the crown at the Invitational with a score of 477.
Headlining the performances on the men's side was Jordan Lentz after he put together an impressive showing of 94 in very unpredictable conditions. Lentz's score earned him a 5th place finish for Collegiate Trap. Ross Wolken (16), Jacob Kaisand (18), Zackary Abbas (21), Max Gardner (23), and Spencer Shonka (24) also shot well in a field of talented shooters.
