Female Athlete of the Week- Carlie Hoppe
RedTail Track and Field pentathlon student-athlete Carlie Hoppe has been named Scheels Female Athlete of the Week for her performance at the Fighting Bee Invite on January 27-28.
Hoppe had a great performance at the Fighting Bee Invitational in the Pentathlon, hitting a new lifetime personal best. She battled back from a rough start in the 60m Hurdles and High Jump with a lifetime personal best in the shot put with a mark of 11.16m (a full meter farther than her original PR last season) and a long jump of 4.83m. Her pentathlon score of 2,642 qualified her for a top eight ranking for nationals, and moved her up to number three on the Hawkeye Top 10 All-time list.
"Carlie has been through it all," said coach Hunter Lavallee. "She relies on her incredible determination and hunger to be the best and to grow everyday in practice. She is commonly called the team mom because of her huge heart for each and every teammate. Though Carlie is in one of the hardest majors at Hawkeye, she continues to go above and beyond in the classroom, on the track, and in all other aspects of her life. Carlie is the textbook definition of 'if there's a will, there's a way.' She will look to defend her national standing at the Region XI indoor championships."
Hoppe is originally from Dysart, IA.
