MARION–The Hawkeye RedTail Golf team kicked off their spring season competing in the Eagle Spring Classic hosted by Kirkwood Community College. While battling the wet and cold elements at the Hunter's Ridge Golf Course in Marion, the RedTails finished in sixth with a two-day total of 706 (338-368).
Sophomore Cory Hockey led the way, firing 82-85 (167) and tied for 27th. Other RedTail golfers competing were Keon Huffman 84-94 (178), Ethan Jaso 87-92 (179), Derrick Schorg 85-97 (182), Cale Reicks 92-99 (191) and Kirk Drew 103-108 (211).
"Coming out of winter I thought we did a good job in our first tournament of the spring as we try to shake off some rust from the off-season," said head coach Micah Destival. "I think we have a lot of positives to work with going into a busy two weeks of tournaments starting the first week of April. The courses we practice at should be opening this week and I know the guys are anxious to get back to work on their games."
The RedTails will be back on the course in April with tournaments in Galena, Ill., on April 4 and in Waverly April 5-6
