Tom Bell Receives Male Athlete of the Year Award

WATERLOO-The RedTails hosted their 2021-2022 season banquet on Wednesday, April 27, 2022, where Tom Bell was awarded the Male Athlete of the Year.

 

In 2020 at the Klocke Classic, Bell, the program's first International player shot a 71 in the first round to be the first RedTail to break par in competition. He followed it up the next day with a three under par 69. On the last hole, Bell flubbed his ~65 yard approach one shot short of the green and made a good save for par. He was upset about his approach shot, ran back to try it again and promptly one hopped it into the hole.

 

Bell holds the following Individual 18 hole statistics:

  1. At the 2022 NIACC Spring Invite at Mason City Country Club, Bell shot a 67 and was named the meet champion.

  2. At the 2022 DMACC Invite Round 1 at the Ames Golf & Country Club, Bell shot a 70, winning the meet. During Round 2, Bell shot a 71, claiming champion status once again.

  3. Bell shot a 70 at the 2021 Hawkeye Fall Classic at Gates Park and was crowned the meet champion.

Bell also holds the following Individual 36 hole statistics:

  1. At the 2022 DMACC Invite at Ames Golf & Country Club, Bell shot a 141 to win the meet.

  2. Bell shot a 148 at the 2021 Clarke Invite at the Eagle Ridge Golf Course to claim champion status.

"He has been the hardest worker I've seen ever since he stepped foot on campus," said RedTail head coach Micah Destival. "He demands excellence out of his teammates and leads by example. It could be 70 degrees outside or 34 degrees and rain, he will be out practicing and playing to try and get better. This work ethic has led to others on the team doing the same thing which has made us a stronger RedTail team. He holds top school records in his sport and has multiple first place finishes in tournaments as a RedTail. In the classroom, he has earned First Team Academic All-Region honors and will graduate with his Associate's degree in May. Additionally, he is an active member of the student-athlete advisory committee."

 

Following graduation, Bell will be attending Bowling Green State University in Ohio to continue his golf and academic career.
