RedTails Men’s Golf Wins Hawkeye Spring Invite for Sixth Win this Season
Over the weekend, the RedTail men's and women's golf teams took part in some home cookin' at the Hawkeye Spring Invite at Gates Park Golf Course in Waterloo. The two-day event hosted five teams.
The men were led yet again by sophomore Kaeden Anderson, who fired a two-day total of 140 (-4) [72-68]. Three other RedTails tied for second place, sophomores Bruno Marti Jimenez and Mauricio Jimenez, along with freshman Graham Bremner, all shot two-day totals of 147 (+3). The Hawkeye A squad won the tournament, shooting 589 (+13), with the B squad not too far behind in second place with a 599 (+23).
"This was by far the best we have played as an entire team in program history, as day one, we had 13 guys break 80," says Head Coach Micah Destival. "Unbelievable for Kaeden Anderson to hole out for a 2 on his last hole of his last home tournament."
"I really enjoyed the two rounds of golf as a team on Friday, Saturday. I felt the team put in a really good performance the whole tournament, and had a fantastic 2nd round for our A and B teams," says Kaeden Anderson. "Good momentum booster as we head close to regionals, where we hope to make national as a team!"
The women were led by sophomore Libby Larkin, who shot her two-day total of 189 (+45).
"The women continue to improve each tournament, and it was nice to have better weather for day 2," says Destival. "We are looking forward to NIACC on Tuesday and then the District Tournament next week."
