The Hawkeye Community College men's golf team opened its 2025 season with a sixth-place finish at the Highland 36 in Freeport, Illinois. The RedTails posted a two-round team score of 642 (+82), highlighted by steady play from several golfers, showing early promise for the year ahead.
Mitchell Randall led the way with rounds of 80 and 78 for a 158 (+14) total. Oliver Thompson added consistent rounds of 78 and 80 to finish at 158 (+14), while Kaden Kopsa carded a 77–81 showing for 158 (+14). Rounding out the scoring, Graham Bremner finished with rounds of 78 and 84 for 162 (+18), and Finn Cook recorded scores of 80 and 83 for 163 (+19).
Head Coach Micah Destival was pleased with the team's effort on opening day while also noting areas for growth.
"Nice to get the season started off on a perfect day in Illinois. The team did some good things, but our inexperience was exposed and we didn't get the outcome we were looking for. It will be great to get in a few days of practice before our next tournament in Marion on Wednesday," said Coach Sutton.
