The Hawkeye Community College men's soccer team battled hard but came up short on Saturday, falling 3–1 to Northeast Community College at home.
Northeast struck first in the 10th minute when Ellis Oksman converted on an assist from Ludovico Vicini to give the Hawks an early lead. The visitors doubled their advantage just after halftime, as Len Valkema found the back of the net off a setup from Oksman in the 46th minute.
Hawkeye responded with persistence and broke through in the 70th minute. Alexander Aslanidis capitalized from the penalty spot, burying a penalty kick to bring the RedTails back within one at 2–1. Despite the momentum swing, Northeast closed the door late. Valkema added his second goal of the match in the 89th minute, assisted by Moritz Zettl, to secure the 3–1 result.
The RedTails generated eight shots in the contest, with three on target. Aslanidis led the way with Hawkeye's lone goal, while George Mills and Joao Pedro Morais each tallied shots on goal. Goalkeeper Dylan Lyle recorded five saves in net for Hawkeye.
Northeast's relentless attack produced 27 shots, and their pressure also earned 10 corner kicks on the day. Valkema paced the visitors with two goals, while Oksman contributed a goal and an assist.
The RedTails move forward looking to build on their defensive effort and capitalize on attacking chances as they continue conference play.
