Male Athlete of the Week-Blake Veenstra

RedTail Track and Field thrower Blake Veenstra has been named Scheels Male Athlete of the Week for his performance in the Jack Jennett Invitational at UNI on January 21.

Blake placed 1st at the Jack Jennett Invitational breaking both the RedTails Shot Put and Weight Throw school records. Blake is ranked 3rd for both Shot Put and Weight Throw in the NJCAA qualifying him for Nationals.

"Blake has done an outstanding job this year starting off with personal bests in the shot put and in the weight throw, ranking in the top 5 in the NJCAA for both," says throws coach Jordan Williams. "We are hoping for a top 2 finish in both events this year at indoor Nationals and am looking forward to seeing what else he will accomplish this outdoor season."

"I am pretty happy with my performance at UNI for being the second meet of the season," said Blake. "I'm hoping for more but I'm just happy to compete with my team."

Veenstra is originally from Pella.
