RedTail Track & Field Competes in Des Moines
DES MOINES–The RedTail Track and Field team traveled to Des Moines over the weekend to compete in the Drake Relays on April 27-30.
In the 1600m sprint medley relay, the women's team set a school record with a 200, 200, 400, and 800m leg. Mattie Janssen, Jenna Hummell, Maci Freund, and Emma Hoins finished eighth overall with a time of 4:13.22.
"I was extremely happy for this crew to represent Hawkeye at the Drake Relays. Each athlete ran with strong legs to establish our school record in that event," said head coach Tyler Mulder.
The men's team placed 15th in the 4x100 relay. Ray Talbert, Blake Osborn, Brigham Daniel, and Keegan Thompson had a time of 42.08. In the 4x400, Osborn, Isaac Vaske, Edgar Tapia, and Daniel placed 14th with a time of 3:16.87.
Placing 12th in the spring medley relay, Daniel, Thompson, Osborn, and Koby Brackemeyer had a time of 3:31.88. In the distance medley relay, Tyler Colvin, Osborn, Chase Mullenix, and D'Artagnon Beaver placed 11th with a time of 10:28.25. Blake Veenstra placed 21st in the discus with a mark of 47.12m.
The men competed strong, we set two new school records in the Men's Sprint Medley Relay and Distance Medley Relay. I was more impressed with how the team handled the travel back and forth between two meets. It was a busy, fun weekend for these guys and they were well poised for championship season," said head coach Tyler Mulder.
Next up for the RedTails is the Region XI Multi Wrap-up on May 1.
