Women Crown Meet Champ Emma Hoins, Men Crown Connor Belken
COUNCIL BLUFFS–The RedTails competed in the Region XI Championships at Iowa Western Community College on May 7-8, 2022, and both teams competed solidly.
The women's team came into the meet ranked fourth and finished fourth overall at the meet.
Emma Hoins was the lone event champion in the 3,000 steeplechase with a Region XI meet record time of 10:55.67, and bested her school record with a 40 second person record.
The RedTails qualified for finals in both the 100 and 200, breaking school records and scoring team points.
"Overall the women's team really stepped it up as we saw a ton of personal bests from every single athlete!" said head coach Tyler Mulder. "We saw personal bests from Allison Flanscha in the Javelin, Emma Hoins in the Steeple, Jenna Hummell in the 200, Mattie Janssen in both the 100, 200 and the 4x1 relay which was just shy of the school record and qualifying time. These ladies worked hard and had a great meet. It was so fun for the staff to watch each athlete give a little extra in a championship setting! This team has heart and has been one fun year working with them!"

The men's team had a meet champion in the Javelin from Connor Belken, with a distance of 49.66m.
The 4x100 team took the runner up spot, with a time of 41.90.
The 4x400 team also took the runner up spot with a time of 3:18.22.
Ray Talbert punched his ticket to the final in the 100, just .01 off of hitting the auto standard.
Blake Osborn punched his ticket in the 400 with a lifetime personal record of 47.95.
"We had several breakthrough performances that we'll need to adjust our top ten lists majorly!" head coach Tyler Mulder commented. "We are ecstatic that Osborn punched his ticket in the 400. Getting a meet champion from Belken in the Javelin was a fun surprise for us, as he doesn't regularly practice that event. Miguel Rubio stepped it up in the Javelin as well, which is fun to see him having success in that event! Talbert is right where he needs to be for his 100, just got a little tight for the finals. Our 4x1 is on the cusp of the school record and auto qualifier. Isaac Vaske ran strongly in the 400 hurdles. Our 800, Stephen Thomas and Chase Mullenix scored team points and had the breakthrough race they needed! Overall it was a nonstop exciting meet for the RedTails, just great performances event after event! Proud of these guys for the hard work they put in and performing so well at the conference meet!"
The RedTails are back in action May 19-21 for the 2022 NJCAA Outdoor Nationals in Hutchinson, KS.
