RedTails Battle Strong at Kip Janvrin Open
The Hawkeye Community College Track and Field Team traveled to Indianola on April 24 - 25 to compete at the Simpson Kip Janvrin Open. The RedTails produced top‑10 finishes, season bests, and strong showings across sprints, mid‑distance, and throws.
Men's Highlights
Sprints Lead the Way

Tarelle Hoskins delivered one of the team's top finishes of the meet, placing second in the 100m with a sharp 10.66 (1.6).

Tariq Moore doubled up with two standout races — sixth in the 100m (10.74, 3.8) and a strong fifth in the 200m (21.85, 1.7).

Tye Houser added depth in both sprints, clocking 11.01 in the 100m and 22.94 in the 200m.

Ryan Leonard posted a solid 22.79 in the 200m and returned for a 53.19 in the 400m.
Mid‑Distance & Distance

Chander Drake competed in the 800m, finishing in 2:12.07.

Samuel Brace ran 4:56.71 in the 1500m.

Brady Eike took on the steeplechase, crossing in 11:45.99.
Relay Success

The men's 4x400 relay of Houser, Moore, Hoskins, and Leonard placed sixth with a time of 3:48.16, closing the meet with a strong team effort.

Throws Deliver Big Marks

Riley Goddard earned a top‑10 finish in the hammer, throwing 44.75m (146'10"), and added a 10.19m mark in the shot put.

Kallan McEwen placed ninth in the shot put with a strong 12.10m (39'8.5") and competed in the hammer.

Reese Winslow rounded out the shot put group with a 10.48m performance.
Overall Takeaway
The RedTails showed competitive fire across all event groups, highlighted by top‑five sprint finishes, a top‑10 hammer throw, and steady middle‑distance performances. With the outdoor season progressing, Hawkeye continues to build momentum heading into championship competition.
Coach Terell Gordon commented, "This weekend, the majority of our track and field team competed at Simpson College, and I couldn't be more proud of how we showed up and performed."
Coach Gordon shouted out a couple of athletes, saying, "Freshman Tariq Moore had an outstanding meet, putting together two strong races in the 100 and 200 meters, finishing with times of 10.74 and 21.85. On the women's side, freshman Reese Winslow delivered a great performance as well, earning a personal best in the shot put with a mark of 10.47 meters."
Finally, Coach Gordon talked about the rest of the season, "As we head into regionals this weekend, I'm confident that both our men's and women's teams are expecting some big-time performances."
