RedTail Cross Country Excels in the Cold and Rain
DECORAH, IA- Women's 5k and Men's 4-mile Race Recap:
RedTail Women's Cross Country consisted of Freshman Rachel Rusche competing at the Luther College Invite. Rusche had a season-best time of 25:57.49 with very wet and rainy and muddy conditions. She placed 60th overall in the tough competition and weather conditions.
Head coach Tyler Mulder had some positive words after the RedTails last competition.
"Rachel looked much more in her element with the cooler temps," he said. "So far this season we've had some drastic differences in weather with the extreme heat and now a very muddy course!"
RedTail Men's Cross Country came home taking sixth as a team at the Luther College Invite. The men ran a 4-mile race, the first time they had run that distance compared to the 8k race. D'Artagnan Beaver and Brennan Sauser led the way again finishing 23rd and 24th with times of 23:02.76 and 23:03.88. Zach Niederklopfer finished 41st with a 23:49.15 followed by Hunter Hughlette at 60th with a 24:38.29. Bryce Grissom and Kory Sweeney finished 90th and 94th with times of 27:55.04 and 28:26.25.
Head coach Tyler Mulder had some positive words after the RedTails last competition.
"Given the conditions of the wet, cold, and muddiness of the course, the men did a good job of competing and had a great time experiencing some true Cross Country weather and course," he said. "Luther does a great job of putting the event on. It was a guaranteed personal best time for everyone as it was their first time at that distance. It's a good race to get in as they are building up mileage and preparing for the 8k."
The RedTails next competition will come September 23 in St. Paul, MN for the Roy Griak Invite.
