Sports Shooting Takes Third Place at SCTP Nationals in Ohio
MARENGO, OH- Coach Boldt and the Hawkeye Community College Sports Shooting team were on the road this last weekend at the Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) College National Championships in Ohio. The RedTails took third in Division III, which consisted of 13 schools, and placed eighth overall in the field of 23 schools.
The division each school was placed in was based on the number of shooters the team brought to the event. Hawkeye brought ten shooters with them, putting them in Division III. The five scores that counted towards their final team score of 950 out of 1,000 were: Marcus Draves-194, Jordan Lentz-194, Ross Wolken-188, Austin Boldt-187, and Nathan Wilson-187. Jordan Lentz was able to run a 99 out of 100 targets while Marcus Draves was right behind him with a high score of 98.
"I was very pleased with the team's performance and how well they did against the competition we faced from all over the Nation." Boldt said about the RedTails and their first ever national competition. Martin Methodist College won the national meet with a score of 991. Two of their shooters recorded perfect scores of 200, while another teammate missed just one bird.
The RedTails Sports Shooting team finishes up their fall season with a meet at Southwestern Community College this Saturday, November 5, beginning at 10:00 am.
