RedTail Sports Shooting Breaks Team Records
The RedTails traveled to New Pioneer Clay Target Center in Waukee, on Saturday, October 21, to compete in the ICCAC Conference Championships and the Iowa SCTP Junior College Clay Tournament Championships.
The RedTails brought back the ICCAC East Division hardware for their accomplishments during the regular season. The RedTails earned ICCAC Conference Championships trophy and an Iowa Junior College Clay Target Championship trophy. The RedTails stood taller than the rest by breaking 479 targets in the windy conditions.
"The wind had some targets dancing all over the place and they showed their mental toughness to persevere to the end," said coach Troy Emley. The RedTails also earned third place high-overall, third place in skeet, third place in sporting clays, and fourth place in super sporting. The RedTails Skeet team broke last year's school record of 455 targets, with a 467 target effort. The sports shooting team also set a new school record in sporting clays, with 236 targets. The RedTails also set a new school record by breaking 111 targets in super sporting.
Haley Starmer is bringing back an individual championship in super sporting. Starner also made it onto two of the team scores and earned the third place for female skeet. Colton Crooks had an awesome championship weekend and carried home the male captain high overall medal, male champion sporting clays medal, and the male trap-singles champion medal. Lydia Covert continued to impress with her fourth place female performance in super shooting. Blaedyn Benscoter earned runner-up honors from his trap-singles performance. Sam Singewald walked away with male fourth place in trap-singles.
Coach Troy Emley had some positive words after a very successful weekend.
"This team fought for every target and I appreciate every one of our team's shooters as they focused this weekend," he said. "They have broken three school records this weekend and we are very proud of these shooters."
The RedTails will focus on their work in the classroom during the Winter, but are looking forward to the ACUI/SCTP College Nationals in San Antonio, Texas, at the National Shooting Complex, on March 20-25, 2024.
