RedTails Dominate NICC in Sports Shooting Dual
The Hawkeye Community College Sports Shooting team turned in a commanding performance on Saturday, Sept. 27, defeating Northeast Iowa Community College in both singles and doubles competition.
In trap singles, Hawkeye claimed the top team spot with a score of 480, led by Ethan Tlusty (99), Elliott Brincks (97), Colton Vander Wiel (95), Gabby Wright (95), and Carter Burkhardt (94). Tlusty's near-perfect round earned him first place among all men's shooters, followed closely by Brincks and Vander Wiel to sweep the top three individual spots. On the women's side, Wright and Lydia Covert (94) went one-two, with Wright taking the individual title.
The RedTails were equally impressive in doubles, where Mason Goche (50), Cole Slabaugh (48), and Brincks (44) swept the men's leaderboard. For the women, Wright (44) and Ella Audorff (39) claimed the top two spots, with Covert (36) also placing in the top four.
Head coach Troy Emley praised the team's success:
"Beautiful day to break some clay; and we came away with success!"
With strong performances across the board, Hawkeye once again showcased why they are one of the premier programs in the Iowa Two-Year Collegiate League.
The RedTails return to competition on Friday, Oct. 3, when they host their next event.
