Lydia Covert | SCHEELS Female Athlete of the Week

Lydia Covert put together an incredible showing at the ICCAC Conference and Iowa SCTP State Championships, earning multiple top finishes and cementing her spot as one of the best female shooters in program history.

Covert earned First Team honors across four ICCAC categories — High-Over-All, Skeet, Sporting Clays, and Trap-Singles — and followed that with five medals at the ICCAC and Iowa SCTP Championships. She placed 2nd in Skeet (96/100), 3rd in Super Sporting (41/50), 5th in Sporting Clays (72/100), 5th in Trap-Singles (192/200), and 5th in Trap-Doubles (83/100).

Head Coach Troy Emley praised her achievements, saying, "Lydia Covert gave the best female Hawkeye RedTail ICCAC regular season and ICCAC Conference and Iowa SCTP State Championships performance of the 2025–2026 season. She earned most improved female during the 2024–2025 season, and came back for her 3rd year of eligibility on a mission to be the best she can be. Lydia is one of the best female examples of being a Hawkeye RedTails Sports Shooter we have ever had here."
