RedTail Sports Shooting Competes at 2026 Collegiate Clay Target Championships
The Hawkeye RedTail Sports Shooting team traveled to the National Shooting Complex, in San Antonio, Texas, to participate in the 2026 Collegiate Clay Target Championships. This competition is divided into different divisions based on school type. Four-year colleges and universities (with up to six years of eligibility) compete in Divisions I, II, and III, while two-year community and technical colleges (with up to three years of eligibility) compete in Division IV.
"We did awesome considering the chaos of squatting our student-athletes this season. We were competing in three different disciplines, at three different locations at times. The student-athletes focused more on squad time, place, and discipline more than we ever have before." said Coach Emley. Hawkeye RedTails Sports Shooting competed against ICCAC conference rivals (Central (Nebraska), Indian Hills, Iowa Central, Iowa Western, and Southeastern).
Their individual accomplishments stand out because both four-year and two-year universities/colleges are together.
Cole Cross (second year, Colwell, IA) earned Men Class C Champion, in Sporting Clays.
Lucas Kentopp (second year, Kelly, IA) earned Men Class C Champion in Super Sporting.
Abbie Hill (second year, Ames, IA) earned Ladies Class C second Place, in Super Sporting.
Lydia Covert (third year, Lakewood, NY) earned Ladies Class C third Place, in Super Sporting.
Cole Slabaugh (second year, Uniontown, OH) earned Men Class C third Place in a shoot-off in Sporting Clays.
Both Cole Slabaugh and Gabby Wright posted scores which earned them shoot-offs (top three places), but lost their shoot-off, they did not place within their class.
"There are many bright spots, in the midst of tough competition" said coach Emley. "We appreciate all the effort of this amazing graduating class, and we look forward to the dawn of the new season. God is Good! Go RedTails!"
