RedTails Secure First Ranked Win in Program History
The Hawkeye RedTail Softball Team travelled to Fort Dodge to take on #21 Iowa Central Community College. The RedTails split on the day, winning game one 4-2 and losing game two 8-0.
Game One: 4 (HCC), 2 (ICCC)
The RedTails started behind in game one. Iowa Central put up their only two runs in the game very quickly, scoring on an in the park homerun, and a double, fielder's choice, and advance to home on a first and third situation.
The third inning saw the first runs for the RedTails. Mya Chamberlin hit a double to start the inning. Lucy Lebo then put the ball in play, Chamberlin got out advancing to third, but Lebo herself made it to second base. Emilee Bergmann put down a sacrifice bunt and made it safely on a Triton error, putting runners on the corners. Mackenzie Bridgewater then singled on a bunt to score Lebo. Alyvia Anderson hit a sacrifice fly to score Bergmann, and Isabel Kriegel hit a single to score Bridgewater, giving the RedTails a 3-2 lead.
In the top of the fifth, the RedTails fought for one more run. Bergmann started with a walk and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Bridgewater. Bergmann then scored from an Anderson single, giving the RedTails a two-run lead.
The RedTails shut down the Triton offense in fifth, sixth, and seventh inning to help them secure the first ranked win in program history. Bridgewater led the way, going 2-3 at the plate with one run scored and one run batted in. Chamberlin added two doubles, and Anderson added two runs batted in. On the mound, Chamberlin got the win, going all seven innings, giving up just five hits, two runs, one walk, and five strikeouts.
Game Two: 8 (ICCC), 0 (HCC)
Game two was quiet for the RedTail offense.
The Tritons scored one run in the first inning, scoring from a RedTail error, a single, a walk, and another single. They added three runs in the bottom of the second, scoring on a walk, RedTail error, a double, and a single. Three more runs were added in the fourth, scoring on two singles, a fielder's choice, and two sacrifice flies. They scored one more run in the bottom of the fifth to complete the run rule.
Adelyn Sienknecht took the loss on the mound, going four innings, giving up eight hits, seven runs, four earned, and three walks.
The RedTails travel to Mason City, Iowa to take on #22 ranked North Area Iowa Community College at 1:00 & 3:00 PM on Sunday, March 29th.
