RedTails Earn Split on Sophomore Day
The RedTail Softball team had sophomore day to celebrate the 2026 graduating class during their double header against North Iowa Area Community College on Sunday, April 19th. They split the day with Trojans, losing game one 11-0 and winning game two 10-8.
Game One: 11 (NIACC), 0 (HCC)
Game one was a tough outing for the RedTails, unable to get the bats going and unable to hold the offense of the Trojans.
The Trojans scored one run in the first, one run in the second, and two more in the third to go up 4-0. They added a big fourth inning, scoring seven runs to go up by 11.
The RedTail offense was slow to start and slow to finish. Alyvia Anderson started the bottom of the fifth with a double and moved to second when Emilee Bergmann hit a single, but the threat was ended by NIACC.
At the plate, Anderson led going 1-1 with one walk. Mya Chamberlin took the loss on the mound, going 3.1 innings, giving up fourteen hits, eight runs, and four strikeouts. Adelyn Sienknecht threw 1.2 innings, giving up three hits, three earned runs, four walks, and three strikeouts.
Game Two: 10 (HCC), 8 (NIACC)
The bats found some life for the RedTails in game two, spraying 15 hits from all nine batters in the lineup.
To start the game, NIACC went up 4-0 quickly in the first inning, but the RedTails responded and came back in the first. Mackenzie Bridgewater forced a Trojan error and stole second. She advanced to third on a wild pitch, Isabelle Kriegel walked, and Chamberlin hit a sacrifice fly to score one. Alyvia Anderson then forced a Trojan error to score Kriegel. Jordan Trueblood hit a two out single to put runners on first and second, and Emilee Bergmann hit a single to score one more run, making it a 4-3 game. Jordan Eads then hit a single to load the bases, and Rylie Devlin hit a bases clearing double to score three runs, making it 6-4 in favor of the RedTails.
NIACC got one run back in the second inning, and Hawkeye responded when Bridgewater walked, stole second, and scored on a Kriegel single, allowing the RedTails to maintain a two-run lead.
The Trojans got one more run in the third on three singles.
The RedTails broke out the bats again in the fourth inning. Kriegel walked and moved to second on a Chamberlin single. Eickert then hit a double to score one run. Anderson then hit a single to score Eickert, making it a 9-6 ballgame.
Hawkeye added one more insurance run in the bottom of the fifth when Bridgewater singled, moved to third on a Kriegel single, and scored on a Chamberlin single.
NIACC fought back in the next two innings, put up one run in the sixth and one run in the seventh, but the RedTails shut down the offense, giving them the 10-8 win.
At the plate, Kriegel was a perfect 2-2 with two walks, two runs, and one run batted in. Chamberlin was a perfect 3-3 with two runs batted in. All nine RedTails had hits during the game. Lillian McCarty got the win on the mound, going seven innings, giving up eleven hits, eight runs, six earned, two walks, and five strikeouts.
