RedTail Softball Signs Local Talent
RedTail Softball head coach Courtney Calkins announces the signing of Maddie Ladeburg to the 2026 recruiting class. Ladeburg is the daughter of Kari Ladeburg and Ryan Ladeburg and attends Wapsie Valley High School. Ladeburg plans on pursuing a liberal arts degree during her time at Hawkeye.
During her junior campaign, Ladeburg helped lead Wapsie-Valley to an Iowa State Tournament appearance. Maddie earned a .363 batting average and .500 on base percentage. She had 33 hits, including seven doubles, three triples, and three homeruns. She walked 11 times, was hit by a pitch 14 times, had 21 runs batted in, and scored 21 times herself. She also maintained a .961 fielding percentage. For her efforts, she has earned All-Conference Honorable Mention. She was also named to the Northeast All-District 1A team, was ALl-State Honorable Mention, and was KWAY All-Area First Team. She has her senior season coming up this summer.
Ladeburg had this to say about choosing Hawkeye, “I know that I’m not ready to let go of softball, and I love the sport too much. Since I have the chance to play in college, I’m 100% taking the opportunity. I love how small the campus is and is easy to remember. The environment was calm when I visited.”
“Maddie is going to be a great addition to our team next year,” commented head coach Courtney Calkins. “She has the ability to hit the ball in the gaps of the field and be a threat at the corners. She will be a great addition on both sides of the field. She also is a high-character person and always puts her best foot forward. I am excited to see all she can accomplish here at Hawkeye!”
