Olivia Techam Signs to Continue Athletic Career at Shaw University
RedTail Softball player Olivia Techam has recently signed to continue her athletic and academic career at DII Shaw University. Techam will be studying social work during her time at the university located in Raleigh, North Carolina. Techam is the daughter of Amy and Jim Techam and graduated from Osseo High School.
“I chose Shaw University because the people and environment are so welcoming. Immediately Coach Stephens made me feel wanted and excited to be a potential next step in my career, making that decision much easier. The teammates I met while touring campus were also very kind, and I see myself meeting life long friends!” commented Techam.
During her time at Hawkeye, she was a critical piece in the teams success these last two seasons. She held down her position at the corners, finishing her sophomore season with an impressive .958 fielding percentage. She was a part of six double plays and collected 157 put outs and 33 assists. At the plate, she had a .333 on base percentage.
Outside of softball, she hosted a weekly team Bible study and was a leader on and off the field. She also earned Second Team All-Region Academic for three semesters.
“Hawkeye taught me so much about myself and how to persevere through tough times. The girls I met will forever have an impact on my life. I met some of my bestfriends there, and it was a decision I’ll never regret!” said Techam.
“Techam has been an impactful player for us, both on and off the field,” commented head coach Courtney Calkins. “She has a love for the game that coaches search for in every player. She always wanted more and strived to be her best. She was a great leader and really helped our program make one giant step forward. We will miss her energy, work-ethic, and positive attitude next year. She is leaving very big shoes to fill here next year, but I know she will do great things at Shaw. I cannot wait to watch her succeed at the next level!”
