RedTail Women’s Track and Field Compete at Jack Jennett Invitational at UNI
CEDAR FALLS- RedTail Women's Track and Field competed at UNI's Jack Jennett Invitational on January 20th, bringing home fourth overall at the meet.
"Overall, the RedTail women showed up to the Jack Jennett Invitational ready to compete," said coach Hunter Lavallee. "Each group showed improvement and knocked a little more rust off. Having a busy weekend ahead did not stop them whatsoever. The ladies toed the line, stepped on the runway and in the ring with a championship mentality."
Women's sprints crew hit the ground running this weekend, and secured multiple season personal bests for the team. Mattie Janssen debuted her first race after coming off a previous injury, securing a spot in the finals; she ended up hitting a 8.39 on her second race. Running beside her were Maddi Vawter (8.76), Gracie Rathe (8.83), Lexi Miller (Debut: 8.92), and Hailey Eitzenhefer (8.94 PR). The ladies kept the pressure on moving into the 200m dash posting times of: Melody Kremer (28.65) and Kendall See (30.28).
Women's middle distance squad opened up the meet and had stellar runs across the board. Freshman Sydnie Martin started them off with a season personal record of a 1:02 open 400m run. Following the 400, three freshman Jules Breakenridge, Maddie Tieskotter, and Rachel Rusche debuted their first 800 opener placing them in the top 15. Breakenridge clocked in with a 2:36, Tieskotter with a 2:43, and Rusche with a 3:00.
The RedTails had three women compete in the throwing events. Abby Bartz led in the shot put for the women, placing eighth with a throw of 10.09m. Delaney Kopriva threw 9.10m and Elyse Trunck threw 8.12m. Bartz followed that performance by placing seventh in the weight throw with a PR throw of 12.83m.
