Record Breaking Performances at NJCAA Indoor Nationals for the RedTail Women’s Track & Field Team
TOPEKA, KANSAS–The RedTail Women's Track & Field team wrapped up the indoor season at the NJCAA Indoor Nationals on March 3-4, 2023. The RedTails had a stellar performance, with a school record, multiple PRs, and an All-American.
Abby Bartz broke the school record in shot put, throwing 12.65 meters and finishing in eighth place. Bartz earned First Team All-American honors with the throw. Bartz also competed in the weight throw, finishing in 11th with a throw of 14.69 meters and earning Second Team All-American honors. Head coach Scott Roberts reflected on her performance saying, "She has come a long way, technically since she stepped on campus in the fall and we couldn't be prouder of her." Carlie Hoppe set a new PR in the pentathlon, scoring 2651. Hoppe finished in 12th and earned Second Team All-American status. Hoppe competed in the shot put as well, placing 15th and throwing 11.36 meters.
Jules Breakenridge, Jordan Gallentine, Sydnie Martin, and Maddie Tieskotter ran a season's best time of 13:54.23 in the distance medley. This time earned them 10th place and Second Team All-American honors. Martin also competed in the 600 meter run, placing 12th with a time of 1:45.49. This earned her another Second Team All-American honor.
"We had our highest team finishes in school history at the Indoor Regional meet on both the women's and men's sides and we will work to build upon that outdoors," said Roberts. "It should be an exciting outdoor season ahead."
The RedTails will compete at the Mustang Open in Cedar Rapids to start the outdoor season on April 1, 2023.
