Women’s Cross Country Takes 2nd at the Grandview University Open
The women's cross country team returned to competition on Saturday at the Grandview University Open. The team took second place overall with every RedTail setting a season-best opening time. This allowed the RedTails to have four runners place in the top 15 finish.
Ryan Portch led the pack with a time of 19:22. Portch's time earned her a fifth overall finish. Crossing the line next was Kylee Leicht, finishing with a time of 20:35, placing 8th. Crossing the line next was Mindi Sande, finishing 11th with a time of 21:29. The next five finishers were, Hannah Payne finishing 14th (21:46), Rachel Wardell finishing 20th (22:15), Sophie Spargue finishing 22nd (22:23), Emma Drake finishing 23rd (22:30), and Elizabeth Barfells finishing 30th (23:25). Drake was able to receive her personal best time this weekend.
After the race Tyler Mulder, the head coach said: "We're happy to get the opportunity to race and we'd like to give a big thank you to Grandview for being able to host this event to give the girls the chance to capitalize on their hard work! We're in a good place for training, we look to build off of this going forward in our training and the rest of the season, this is definitely one of the hardest working groups head to toe that I've been blessed to work with."
The RedTails will be in action September 12, at the Fighting Bee Invite in Davenport, IA. The time is still to be determined.
