RedTails Battle Through Competitive Weekend in Illinois
The Hawkeye Community College volleyball team faced a demanding weekend of competition in Illinois, taking on four matches over two days against some of the top programs in the region. The RedTails came away with one victory, earning a strong three-set win over McHenry County College while falling to Lincoln Land, Cowley County, and Parkland College.
Hawkeye opened play on Friday, October 10, against Lincoln Land Community College in Bloomington, where the RedTails struggled to find offensive momentum and dropped the match in straight sets (15–25, 10–25, 10–25). The team quickly bounced back in their second contest of the day with an impressive sweep of McHenry County College (25–22, 25–18, 25–16). The RedTails totaled 34 kills and posted a .152 hitting percentage, supported by 60 digs and four total blocks in the victory. The win showcased the team's balanced attack and ability to regroup after a tough opener.
On Saturday, October 11, Hawkeye faced two nationally recognized opponents in Normal, Illinois. The RedTails battled but ultimately fell to Cowley County Community College in three sets (13–25, 14–25, 14–25). In their final match of the weekend, the RedTails took on powerhouse Parkland College, dropping a 0–3 decision (12–25, 6–25, 12–25). Jenna Scharper led Hawkeye with five kills, while Shannon Moorman and Ruby Patterson each added four. Setter Alexis Even contributed 13 assists, and the defensive effort was paced by Liv Dralle and Emersyn Secora, who combined for nine digs.
