RedTails Volleyball Rebounds with Back-to-Back Sweeps at Opening Weekend Tournament
The Hawkeye Community College RedTails volleyball team opened the 2025 season Friday with matches at the Opening Weekend Tournament dropping their opener to Kansas City Kansas Community College before bouncing back with dominant sweeps over North Central Michigan College and Bay College.
In the morning match, the RedTails battled against a strong Kansas City Kansas squad but fell in straight sets (17–25, 23–25, 12–25). Sophomore Emersyn Secora led the offense with 7 kills and 3 service aces, while setter Kinzie Gardner dished out 24 assists and added 2 aces. Defensively, Alexie Hogan posted 8 digs, and Alexis Even contributed 5 kills and 2 aces.
Hawkeye quickly regrouped in their second match, defeating North Central Michigan College (25–17, 25–15, 25–21). Balanced scoring lifted the RedTails as Even finished with 6 kills (.333), Secora posted 7 kills (.286), and Jenna Scharper added 4 kills (.250). Gardner again directed the attack with 24 assists while Hogan anchored the defense with 11 digs. The RedTails also served aggressively, recording 11 aces as a team.
The RedTails carried that momentum into their final match of the day, sweeping Lansing Community College in convincing fashion to close the opening weekend with a 3–1 record.
