RedTails Sweep Southeastern for Conference Home Win
The Hawkeye Community College Volleyball team put together one of its most complete performances of the season on Wednesday night, sweeping Southeastern Community College in straight sets at home.
In the opening set, the RedTails established control early with strong defense and timely hitting. Alexie Hogan sparked the defense with impressive digs, while Emersyn Secora's kill shifted momentum midway through. Liv Dralle sealed the set with a kill as Hawkeye cruised to a 25–16 win.
Set two tested Hawkeye's composure. After falling behind 14–9, head coach Christy Mahi called a timeout to reset her squad. The RedTails responded with a surge, highlighted by back-to-back aces from Kinzie Gardner, a clutch ace from Alexis Even to take an 18–17 lead, and a match-clinching block from Emersyn Secora to secure the 25–20 win.
The RedTails wasted no time closing out the match in the third set. After starting the third set down 3-0, Ruby Patterson's kill helped set the tone, and Hawkeye quickly stretched the lead to 12–5. Patterson later added a key block to push the margin, while the RedTail's contributed service pressure down the stretch, with Alexie Hogie delivering an ace to finish off the 25–13 victory.
Head coach Christy Mahi praised her team's serving and composure against a tough opponent. "I feel really good about our serve and pass game tonight," Mahi said. "They are a good offensive team that doesn't make a lot of mistakes. I felt with our tough serving they couldn't ever really get into a rhythm offensively. It felt really good to get a conference win at home!"
The RedTails are back in action on Saturday, September 27, traveling to Boone, Iowa to compete in the DMACC Invitational.
